Paul Thomason has written scripts for the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts, for the Joseph Volpe Gala (television and radio), and the broadcast of the Met’s National Council Grand Finals Concerts. With the advent of the Met’s 24/7 satellite radio channel on Sirius-XM, Paul has written scores of scripts for the re-airing of historic Saturday afternoon broadcasts beginning with performances originally heard in the 1930s up to the present day.
In addition Paul has written, produced and narrated a variety of programs about opera both in New York (for radio stations WBAI and WNYC) and in San Francisco. He was a regular guest host for “Saturday Night at the Opera” for KDFC-FM in San Francisco. This involved writing the script, selecting the music and narrating programs celebrating the artistry of individual singers, as well as programs with a common theme (such as “Operatic Meteors,” “Demented,” “Great Rossini Singing,” “An Operatic Christmas”).
He has appeared as a panelist on the Met Opera’s popular Intermission Quiz and the Record Collectors Roundtable. Paul has also written, selected the music for, and narrated several intermission features for the Met broadcasts, including tributes to singers Franco Corelli, Renata Tebaldi and Anna Moffo.
